About the countdown timer

Countdowns when you need a finish line

This Timer tool counts down to zero. That is different from the Stopwatch, which counts up. Reach for countdowns when the important moment is the end: a 25-minute focus block, a 10-minute oven check, or staggered reminders for meeting segments.

You can keep several timers on the same page—helpful when cooking multiple dishes or running a workshop with overlapping segments—without juggling separate apps.

How to run countdown timers

1

Add a timer

Click Add, optionally label the timer (for example Pomodoro or Pasta), set hours/minutes/seconds, or tap a quick-set chip, then confirm. Duration must be greater than zero.

2

Start and watch progress

Press play on a timer card. The circular indicator shrinks as time remains decrease so you can glance at status without reading every digit.

3

Manage details

Open a timer's detail view to reset it to the original duration or delete it. Resetting is useful for repeating the same interval; deleting removes it from the local list.

4

Respond when time is up

Finished timers highlight and show a Time's Up message. Browsers that allow sound may play an alert—keep volume audible if you rely on the chime.

Practical countdown uses

Pomodoro and study blocks

Run 25/5 or custom focus/break pairs. Add multiple timers if you pre-plan a full study sequence.

Cooking and kitchen prep

Track boiling, baking, and resting steps in parallel instead of overloading a single phone timer.

Workouts and physiotherapy

Time holds, rest windows, and station rotations with labeled timers you can reset between sets.

Meetings and classrooms

Give each agenda item a countdown so discussions wrap on schedule without a separate facilitator app.

Privacy notes

Timers stay in localStorage

Timer labels and durations are saved in your browser's localStorage so a refresh does not wipe the list. That data is not synced by DK-JS to other devices and is not required to be uploaded for the countdown to work.

Clearing browsing data for this site removes saved timers.

Limitations to know

No guaranteed wake locks

If a phone sleeps aggressively or a tab is heavily throttled, alerts may be delayed. For medication or safety-critical alarms, use a dedicated alarm app.

Sound depends on the browser

Some browsers block audio until you interact with the page. Click play once to enable sound if chimes seem silent.

Not a calendar scheduler

Timers are relative countdowns, not calendar events with time zones or email invites.

Timer FAQ

The Timer tool is a free online countdown timer that lets you create and manage multiple timers at the same time. Set custom hours, minutes, and seconds, track progress with visual indicators, and get alerts when time is up. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Yes, it is completely free. There are no accounts, subscriptions, or hidden fees. All timers are stored locally in your browser.

Yes. You can create and run multiple timers simultaneously. Each timer operates independently, so you can track different activities at once, which is useful for cooking, workouts, Pomodoro sessions, or any time-sensitive task.

All timer data is stored locally in your browser using localStorage. Your timers persist across page refreshes, but they will not sync across devices. No data is sent to any server.

When a timer reaches zero, it shows a Time's Up message and plays an alert sound if your browser supports it. The timer stops automatically and highlights in red so it is easy to notice.

The circular progress ring around the play and pause button shows how much time remains compared with the total time set. As the timer counts down, the ring shrinks to give you a clear visual sense of time left.

Quick set buttons let you instantly set common timer durations like 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour, and 2 hours. Just click a button to set that duration.

Any device with a modern browser works: Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. The timer works entirely in your browser, so no app installation is required.

Click any timer to open its details dialog. From there, you can reset the timer to its original duration or delete it entirely. Reset restores the timer to its initial time, while Delete removes it permanently.
